Tracing the Threads of History and Fantasy

In Gothic Solitude

In Gothic Solitude

Welcome back to Otherworldly, now finally on its own domain that I have been sitting on for years. And to celebrate that, a new and more modern web design, a collaboration between myself and a very helpful fellow called ChatGPT. There are a few little tweaks left here and there, but I am amazed how smooth the process was and I am excited to get back to blogging in fresh, new surroundings. Of course, I may be slightly distracted by an urge to also redesign my other two sites…

Anyways! Since I finally had some time to play around in SL again, I went over to the Midnight Order event and had to resist the urge to buy every other item on sale. It really is one of the best of the currently active events, drawing in some top notch creators who always deliver interesting designs.  Lore, for example, has two beautiful skyboxes at the event, one dark (that would be the one I am using here) and one light. I can see plenty of use for both of them, they have a versatile layout and I really like that the scale is quite reasonable for SL. They are also very beautifully textured with PBR textures and projectors; the stained glass windows look amazing.

The chairs, the table and the rug you might glimpse in the first shot are all by Libertine and available at Midnight Order as well, the rug being a special gift. The gothic Canterbury Chairs are available in two versions, one that sits a single person and one that also includes Moderate and Adult couple poses. Each version offers four beautiful PBR-compatible wood textures.

My outfit is not new, but I actually failed to show off the beautiful Dyanna dress from Old Treasures when I first bought it some months back. Its a fantastic fantasy/period gown and the Mathilde choker, also from Old Treasures, is a perfect accessory for it. And the hair, Magika’s Four of Swords, is a favourite I am happy to return to again.

Rooftop Rest

Rooftop Rest

Lore has a lovely addition to their Oasis series out at the November round of We Love Role-Play, a rustic desert house and three types of large jars/amphorae, and I set it up together with the Oasis walls and well that were released some time ago. The house consists of a single room, with cracked and worn walls, and a ladder takes you up to the rooftop through a hatch. That is where I decided to setup the Djinn’s Rest, a little lounging area with animations that I picked up from Roawenwood during 25 L Tuesday.

The sexy Astra outfit by Salt & Pepper would perhaps best be described as fantasy lingerie, with ornate metallic accents on both the top and the boots. And these make excellent use of PBR, just like the Oasis house does.  With the fatpack you can mix and match all the colours and textures, allowing for a lot of different combinations.

Very sexy is also the extra long Bora hair from Wasabi for Kustom9. The HUD lets you switch between bangs or no bangs as well as a more windswept style. Here I went sleek and serene.

Harvest Bounty

Harvest Bounty

Celebrate the bounty of the harvest with the beautiful Vangsta table from NeonSheep, available both with and without the decor (the decor also included separately) and with and without PBR. It has a rustic elegance which works both for a more modern setting and for a role-play setting. Here I have also added apples in baskets and sacks from Lore’s Apple Harvest fatpack. I am also using the holdable basket and the holdable apple. Don’t they look delicious? Each item comes in four different apple textures to represent different apple varieties. Both of these great autumn decor sets are available at We Love Role-Play for a discount and you still have a few more days to get them before this round closes.

My outfit is also from We Love Role-Play, a very pretty Norse-inspired gown by Rakshasa with a coat that has a knitted look belted over it. The gown and the coat can be worn separately and there are also bracers included for wearing over the sleeves. As usual the fatpack offers excellent customisation options where you can mix and match all the available colours. And with it I am wearing the final piece from the event, the Yrsa necklace from lassitude & ennui, with runes inscribed on the central spiral piece. It comes in three colour variants, each of which also includes a blood-streaked version.

Renaissance Boudoir

Renaissance Boudoir

The SL Renaissance Festival is here! Held for the 5th year in a row and running from September 27th to October 6th, the festival is a fundraising event which raises funds for the American Cancer Society through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. During the time of the festival you can of course shop for fantastic new items to help raise money but there will also be many kinds of entertainments and other ways to participate and donate money. There are six dedicated sims with auctions, raffles, roleplay, performances, tournaments and so on. You really don’t want to miss it so why not visit right away?

For my first post, I am showing off a mix of new things, several using PBR. The cap & braid from Grasshopper St. is a fantastic medieval hair style, beautifully ornate and a great match for the gown from Mere 89.  Finishing the look is the lavish jewellery set by Heartsdale Jewellery. The decor mixes releases by Lore, Eclectica and Folklore & Fable.
